AKU N'ESI OBI IKE: A CHRISTIAN DILEMMA

Does Christianity abhor material wealth? Is it possible to practice Christianity as a wealthy person without offending the mind of Christ her founder? What should be the Christian response to wealth, acquire or avoid it? Why did the early Christians abhor wealth, and saw rich politicians like Zaccheus as fallouts? Why did Christ tell the rich man to go and unction his belongings if he desires to follow him? In fact, why did he use the rich man to illustrate how difficult it will be to enter heaven? Is it possible for a Nigerian politician to be an ambassador of Christ? The bible talks about 'His riches in glory', not the earthly fortresses of princes.

Christianity speaks to the heart, and wealth resides in the heart too. The bible says, where the wealth of man is, there resides his heart, (Aku n'esi obi  ike). In another place the bible says, "In his riches Man lacks Wisdom. He is like the Beasts that are destroyed". And the Word of God can only be understood by 'faithful' wisdom which the rich man lacks. If man cannot remove his heart from his wealth, if he cannot do without his riches, then it becomes questionable if he can actually practice Christianity, unless he wants to live by pretense. Wealth by acquisition or inheritance becomes antithetical to the faith. How best can we be Christians?
